Patsey Crews is a world traveler - Dubai, Nepal, New Zealand, China, Vietnam, and Thailand to name just a few of her travels. Luckily for MerleFest, her exotic destination during the last weekend in April each year is Wilkesboro, NC! Patsey is a two-year MerleFest volunteer who works in hospitality at the Watson Stage.
She learned about MerleFest through her son who was living in Santa Fe, NM at the time and had invited her to come to the festival and spend time in a mountain cabin. Being a thirty-year volunteer at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as well as volunteering at her sons' schools, Boy Scouts, and church, she has found that "working with a group is by far the best way to learn about its heart." So she asked about MerleFest volunteer opportunities and is now hooked.
A fifth generation Floridian, Patsey moved to Houston, TX forty years ago where she developed business travel agencies over a twenty-seven year span. She is administrator of a small foundation that supports international students on the college level. Patsey has two sons who are both in college.
Patsey loves sharing MerleFest with her son. She also enjoys the challenge of coordinating her days so that she can fit all of her favorites-- Doc Watson, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, and the Carolina Chocolate Drops--into her schedule. A favorite MerleFest memory for Patsey is the time she was able to save front row seats for Doc and the Nashville Bluegrass Band for the Sunday morning service. She was the envy of her son and his friends.
So start packing your bags, Patsey. We can't wait to see you at MerleFest 2009.
