Women's Service League of Wilkes
Regular MerleFest attendees look forward every year to visiting the official merchandise tent and seeing the new t-shirts, hats, jackets, etc. that are available for purchase. These items provide a little bit of MerleFest to take home as a reminder throughout the year of good times at the festival. The members of the Women's Service League of Wilkes are there to offer assistance and friendly faces to their customers. Cathy Kolstad, MerleFest coordinator for the group, comments on the group's participation in the festival. "We have a lot of camaraderie during those four days in the tent. We enjoy interacting with the people who shop at the tent, and we know the money we make goes to good causes in the community."
"We donate all proceeds back to the community," Cathy continues. "Each year our club provides a scholarship in the amount of $1500.00 to Wilkes Community College. We also give to organizations such as Samaritan's Kitchen, Wilkes Art Gallery, Communities in Schools, Wings of Wilkes Soccer League, Christmas in Wilkes, the Yadkin River Greenway, Hospice, and others. Our club also works with the East Wilkes High School Key Club so that their members can earn required service hours by working at the tent."
The Women's Service League of Wilkes members work hard at MerleFest, but they also enjoy the music and the people. "We enjoy talking to the festival goers and hearing their stories of what brought them to Wilkes County for the festival."
The group's many financial contributions, made possible through their MerleFest efforts, make Wilkes County a better place to live. Thank you, Women's Service League of Wilkes, for all you do.
