I received an email from the Romp Festival in Owensboro, KY indicating that “We Banjo 3” had pulled out of their festival. They are one of my favorite bands and are also scheduled to appear at Merlefest this year. I checked and “We Banjo 3” is still listed as an artist on the MF lineup, but they no longer have any scheduled times listed to play at merlefest.org . I’m hoping that we are not going to see other bands drop from the MF lineup this year.

    Hi there,
We Banjo 3 has indeed pulled out of MerleFest 2021 due to travel restrictions. We were so sorry to loose them. We have replaced them with Gangstagrass.

Dear MerleFest, Please keep us all advised of artist cancellations in a timely manner; we’re within 2 weeks of the start of MF, which, under the circumstances of rampant Delta Covid, especially in NC and Wilkes County, really ought to be postponed/cancelled. It would make my decision NOT to be stupid a much easier one! hahaha Also, I’m being encouraged by an artist friend to NOT come. If it weren’t for their contract, they said, they’d not go anywhere near it. ‘We’ll do our set and leave the premises’, they said. Be smart, People! Get your refunds now and stay alive for next spring. Just sayin’….

Haven’t checked to see if there’s been a replacement, but an artist who performed at the NC Folk Festival as the Friday night (Sept. 10th) headliner may be of interest. She may be already booked, but Molly Tuttle’s new rock-oriented show would have been a natural to replace We Banjo 3. The new show would be an absolute stunner in the dance tent. It was impossible to ignore the attraction that younger folks showed to Molly’s charismatic and near-flawless performance. She got in plenty of her usual amazing guitar runs, but the new Molly showed some amazing vocal versatility. If she wasn’t already shoehorned into the “bluegrass” genre, she’d be a breath of fresh (and multi-talented) air to the staid and stale Nashville same-old-same-old. But maybe the shots fired last night got her some much-deserved attention.

So has Johhnyswim cancelled? I saw that they had postponed their fall tour.
