I have seen plenty of information posted about overnight storage not being available, this year. It is always qualified by mentioning “fewer volunteers” and “Covid”. I am a little surprised that it did not come back, this spring, but “…it ain’t all fixed, yet!” OK, not a problem! I heard today, from a banjo toting friend, that the front office now says that there is no day storage at Merlefest this year, either, and it is unlikely to return at all. For those of us who regularly populate the “pickin’ tents” and might consider making a substantial purchase at the mercantile, this is a real problem. I and my friend have paid premium prices, for years, to insure a good seat at the Watson Stage for our favorite acts. “Hey, gotta go! Sierra Hull is about to tear it up over at the Main! gotta check the guitar and get over there! ” I have always taken all my stuff out at night, so overnight is not a big thing, but losing day storage is just plain wrong. If you expect me to hike to the car multiple times each day, forget it. I guess i will just drag my guitar to my seat and clog up the aisle during the evening shows.
OK, here are some post rant thoughts…. How about a separate daytime instrument check in a secure space in a classroom building? I would gladly pay $50 (for Fri/Sat/Sun) to be able to check my instrument strapped to my wheeled pickin’ stool, when needed. I would be willing to pay similarly for checked day-storage in the old location – it was damn convenient. Some enterprising service group or church might want to actually take over doing something like this from the M’fest volunteer staff, if it creates a margin they deem worthy.
Last of all, why do we find out about these changes just a few days before the event? You have no problem communicating every line-up change with me by e-mail, but only hear about this through the back channels.

At this point, I’d just call or email directly.

My friend played phone tag just to get to the response I related. Merlefest folks seem to be following the ‘Merlefest Fans’ Facebook page, but this text posted there was kicked off for a “key word”…. If I get no response here, I will try other avenues….

    From an e-mail I just received….
“MerleFest will not offer day or overnight storage for the 2022 festival. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”
